Remote Care: Providing Long-Distance Support For Seniors
Seniors who don’t have relatives nearby or who struggle with limited access to their community can sometimes have a hard time navigating daily life. The good news is, with modern technology and local services, there are plenty of ways for us to help out (even at a distance) - here are some to consider, presented by Banyan Place.
COMPANIONSHIP
A PRIMARY CONCERN FOR MANY SENIORS IS COMPANIONSHIP, ESPECIALLY DURING A PANDEMIC WHEN ISOLATION HAS BEEN AT ITS WORST. LUCKILY, THERE ARE A NUMBER OF WAYS TO ENSURE THAT THE ELDERLY RECEIVE COMPASSION, EVEN FROM AFAR.
- Facetime or video call services are free of charge and some have been developed especially for senior functionality. Contact a company that specializes in tech support for seniors who aren’t familiar with technology.
- Many private services offer companion care programs, visiting seniors and loved ones at home.
- Some charities aim to connect seniors with pets to form loving, long-term partnerships.
HOUSING
SENIORS REQUIRE A LIVING SPACE THAT IS SAFE, COMFORTABLE, AND CONVENIENT. TO FIND ONE, THEY MAY NEED A LITTLE HELP.
- The government provides some assistance to help research and fund senior accommodation.
- Some may consider moving altogether. Assisted living communities like
Banyan Place can
provide the support your loved one needs. - If a senior is aging in place, home modifications
- can help them to function and move around.
HANDS-ON HELP
SOMETIMES IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT HELP THE MOST. MANY LOCAL SERVICES ARE WILLING TO PITCH IN TO HELP SENIORS REACH A BETTER STANDARD OF LIVING.
- Snow and leaf cleaners can be enlisted to keep a front yard immaculate.
- If food is an issue, there are plenty of relief programs to help out with groceries and delivery.
- Window repairs can help keep out drafts during the colder months.
Regardless of age, when you don’t have relatives or loved ones nearby, daily life can be a challenge. That’s why it’s important to research and reach out to help keep America’s seniors healthy and happy.
